Privacy Policy

Last updated October 17, 2026

This policy explains what Ink Byte collects about you, why, and what you can do about it. Ink Byte is run by Ink Byte (“we”, “us”).

1.The short version

  • We collect what we need to run the site, and nothing more.
  • We don’t sell your information or show ads.
  • We don’t use analytics or tracking scripts.
  • Your comics are yours, and you choose who can see them.

2.What we collect

Your account. Your name, username and email address, and a securely scrambled (hashed) copy of your password; we can’t see your password itself. We also keep whether your email is confirmed and your role on the site, such as reader or creator.

Signing in with Google. If you use Google, Google tells us your name, email address and profile picture, and an ID for your Google account. We don’t get your Google password or anything else from your Google account. If you sign up this way, we make your username from your name, and you can still add a password.

Security settings. If you turn them on, the secret for your authenticator app, your backup codes, and the public half of your passkeys. Passkeys never send us your fingerprint, face or device PIN.

What you post. Comics, page images and the smaller versions we make of them, panel crops, covers, series, volumes, tags, descriptions, alt text, and your site’s title, tagline and artwork. We remove hidden metadata, such as camera details and location, from the copies of images we store and show.

How you use the site. What you do while signed in, such as the pages you open, the comics you read, like and favorite, who you follow, and the comments you write, vote on or report. We use it to run those features and to moderate the site.

Sign-ins. For each device you’re signed in on: its IP address, browser details, and when the session expires.

Bug reports. What you write and any screenshots you attach, plus the page you were on, your browser and your screen size.

Moderation records. If an admin acts on your account or content, such as removing a comic or suspending an account, we keep a record of what was done and why.

3.How we use it

  • To create and run your account, and show your work.
  • To keep accounts secure, for example by confirming your email, checking two-step codes and spotting misuse.
  • To send emails you need, such as confirming your address or resetting your password. We don’t send marketing emails.
  • To moderate the site and enforce our Terms of Service, including storage limits.
  • To investigate and fix problems you report.

Where laws such as the GDPR apply, we rely on providing the service you signed up for, on our legitimate interest in keeping the site safe and working, and on legal obligations where they apply.

4.What other people can see

  • Your display name, username and site are public, along with your follower count.
  • Comics are shown according to the visibility you choose: public ones to everyone (including in search and RSS feeds), unlisted ones to anyone with the link, restricted ones to the people and groups you pick, and private ones to you alone.
  • Favorite counts are shown on comics, but not who favorited them.

Admins can see more than the public, including your email and content in any state, so they can run and moderate the site. Bug report screenshots can only be seen by admins and the person who sent them.

5.Who we share it with

We don’t sell or rent your information. We share it only:

  • With services that run the site for us, such as our hosting provider, file storage, and email delivery. They may only use it to provide their service to us.
  • With Google, if you sign in with it: Google learns that you signed in to Ink Byte, under Google’s own privacy policy.
  • With Google Fonts, because your browser loads our fonts from Google’s servers, which receive your IP address and browser details.
  • When the law requires it, or to protect people’s safety, such as reporting child sexual abuse material.
  • If the site changes hands, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information.

6.Cookies and local storage

We only use cookies the site needs to work:

  • Session keeps you signed in.
  • Trusted device skips the two-step code for 30 days, if you ask it to.
  • Sign-in steps are short-lived cookies used while you finish two-step verification, a passkey sign-in, or signing in with Google.
  • Sidebar remembers whether you collapsed the sidebar.
  • Admin session is only set for admins, while they view the site as another person.

Your browser also stores a few display choices on your own device, such as your reading mode and studio view. They never leave your device.

7.How long we keep it

  • Account information, for as long as you have an account.
  • What you post, until you or an admin delete it. Copies may remain in backups for a limited time.
  • Sign-in records, until the session ends or expires.
  • Pages you visited, for 90 days.
  • Bug reports, until an admin deletes them.
  • Moderation records, for as long as we need them to keep the site safe. They stay even if the account is deleted.

8.Your choices and rights

  • Choose who sees each comic with its visibility setting, and delete comics whenever you like.
  • Change your password and manage two-step verification and passkeys on your Account & security page.
  • Delete your account and everything you’ve posted, from the same page.
  • Ask us for a copy of your information, or to correct it.

Depending on where you live, including the EU, UK and California, you may have further rights, such as to object to or restrict how we use your information, and to complain to your data protection authority. To make a request, sign in and use Report a bug in the account menu. We may need to confirm it’s you first.

9.Security

We protect your information with hashed passwords, optional two-step verification and passkeys, email confirmation, private storage for screenshots, and access limited to the people who need it. No system is completely secure, so please use a strong, unique password and turn on two-step verification.

10.Children

Ink Byte isn’t for children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, sign in and use Report a bug in the account menu and we’ll remove it.

11.Changes to this policy

We’ll update this policy when the site changes. If a change is significant, we’ll let you know on the site or by email. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
